About Us

Imokilly Medical Centre was established in 2019 by Dr Mike Thompson.  He is a proud graduate of Midleton CBS, UCC School of Medicine and the Cork GP Training Scheme. He obtained his Membership of the Irish College of General Practitioners in 2002. Dr Thompson is joined as GP Principal by Dr Katie Spencer.

He has undertaken further post graduate training to achieve:

  • Diploma in Child Health (RCSI)
  • Diploma in Women’s Health
  • Diploma in Clinical Psychiatry (RCPI)
  • Certificate in Elderly Medicine (ICGP)
  • Diploma in Dermatology (Cardiff)
  • Certificate in Palliative Care ( ICGP)

Dr Katie Spencer specialises in female health, including IUD (coil) insertion and menopause consultations. Dr Katie graduated from UL School of Medicine in 2014 and then from the Ballinasloe Specialist Training Scheme in 2020. She has postgraduate diplomas in Women’s Health and Child Health and a diploma in Musculoskeletal Injury Management.

We are pleased to welcome Dr Alfredo Pastor Ricoy to our team of GPs since 2024. Dr Alfredo qualified in Medicine in Spain in 2014 and has additional qualifications in Family & Community Medicine and Emergency Care. Dr Alfredo has worked as a GP in Ireland since moving here in 2022.

Our clinical staff includes our Practice Nurse, Nurse Aimee, who is available for a range of appointments including bloods, Cervical Screening and vaccinations. Nurse Aimee has also qualified as a Midwife so looks after all routine ante-natal care and follow ups.

Our Practice Manager, Noelle, has a Medical Secretary Diploma and is joined by Practice Secretaries Sarah, Alicja, Kim and Tara on our reception team.

Our Practice Assistant, Anne Marie, is available for phlebotomy services as well as chronic disease monitoring, and will also join our reception team periodically.

Imokilly Medical Centre is fortunate enough to be a training Practice for Cork GP Training Scheme. We will have an experienced Registrar completing their training. This Registrar will remain with us for one year before starting in another Practice.

We have undergraduate Medical Students from UCC, RCSI and Trinity College Dublin in the Spring. These Doctors of the future appreciate being involved in your consultation. If you would rather they not be present please let reception know.
